Gag reel: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ dance competition

Nov 19 • by Ursa • No CommentsGuardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy Blu-ray edition will be out December 6, but BuzzFeed has an exclusive outtake from the movie. We probably all agree that one of the funniest scenes in film was when Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) distracts villain Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) from destroying an entire planet by singing from and dancing to The Five Stairsteps’ “O-o-h Child.” What we didn’t know when watching is that while trying to film that, the cast pulled off a dance competition of their own.

James Gunn, the director of the film, commented on his official facebook page: “To be clear, this wasn’t improv that was meant to be part of the film – it was actually a joke on Dave Bautista (Batista), where I got Chris, Lee Pace, and Zoe together and decided to turn the tables on the script. Dave was as surprised as the crowd when Ronan suddenly took up Quill on his offer of a dance off. When Dave is dancing he’s just being a good sport. In the outtakes, you can see the whole crowd all dancing along. It was one of my favorite moments on set.”

Pratt didn’t work with a choreographer on the scene, nor did the script really specify how exactly he was supposed to be dancing. “But I did have a pretty good sense of the era from which I would be drawing dance moves, given that Quill draws all of his pop-culture references from a certain time frame of basically 1985 and earlier,” he told BuzzFeed.

Lee Pace does the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Aug 23 • by Ursa • No CommentsLee News

Lee accepted Sally Twellman’s challenge to raise money and awarness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). ALS affects the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons degenerate and die which makes it increasingly difficult to move muscles. There is currently no cure. The viral sensation was launched around a month ago by Pete Frates, 29, a former Boston College baseball captain. He has lived with ALS since 2012.

When challenged by a friend or colleague, you have 24 hours to either donate $100 to the cause or post a video showing yourself dumping a bucket of ice water on your head to get out of donating. Then, in turn, you challenge three others. As of Saturday, August 23, The ALS Association has received $62.5 million in donations compared to $2.4 million during the same time period last year (July 29 to August 23).

AMC renews ‘Halt and Catch Fire’ for second season

Aug 20 • by Ursa • No CommentsHalt and Catch Fire

Just in!

From Deadline:

AMC has ordered a second season of the drama Halt and Catch Fire for 2015. The series, about the rise of the PC era in the early 1980s, was not a breakout, opening with soft 1.2 million viewers and a 0.34 demo rating, but attracted what the network said was a committed core audience. The renewal is not about what the series has done but about what AMC brass think it could become. “This is a show about invention, experimentation, and the inherent risks in trying to break new ground – themes that really resonate with us as a network and attracted a passionate audience,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “We have a history of demonstrating patience through the early seasons of new shows, betting on talent and building audience over time. We see that opportunity here and look forward to a second season of ‘Halt and Catch Fire’ from creators Chris Cantwell and Chris Rogers, and showrunner Jonathan Lisco.” AMC also points to Nielsen data showing that Halt and Catch Fire was one of the most upscale dramas on ad-supported television, #3 among adults 18-49, behind Mad Men and The Good Wife.

Season ratings averages, Live+7, across initial 10 episodes

Total viewers, 1.3 million (+78% growth from Live+Same Day)
Adults 18-49, 606k (+92% growth Live+Same Day)

Congratulations to Lee and the rest of the team.

Jul 28 • by Ursa • No Commentsthe Hobbit

Peter Jackson is continuing to amaze J.R.R. Tolkien fans. First official teaser trailer for The Battle of the Five Armies is now out.

The third part brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town.

Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain.

As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.
